Electric scooter – a wide range of e-scooters for commuting, city and adventure
Wheelyshop offers one of Europe's widest ranges of electric scooters – from nimble city models under 20 kg to powerful off-road and long-range scooters with dual motors. Compare range, motor power, weight and tyres directly in the filter, choose from brands like Ninebot, Xiaomi, KuKirin, NAVEE and Kaabo, and find the right model for your journey. Every electric scooter ships with free delivery, a 2-year warranty (in addition to your statutory rights) and the option to pay in instalments.
In short
- Start with your journey: return distance, hills, surface, storage and whether the scooter must be carried or loaded into a car.
- Check the exact version – rules for speed, continuous rated power and approval differ between markets and variants.
- Choose range with a margin: the stated range is a test value, not a promise for cold days and hills.
- Weight, folded dimensions, tyres, suspension and brakes often matter more in daily use than top speed.
- Compare the last two candidates on the same data and pick the one that fits your journey, storage and servicing best.
What you get for your money – electric scooter by budget and use
The price of an electric scooter is mainly driven by battery size, motor design, tyres, suspension and brakes – not by top speed itself. At the lower price point you get a lighter model for shorter trips on tarmac: a smaller battery, simpler tyres and a weight that makes it handy to carry and store. In the mid-range you add longer range, larger air-filled tyres and better suspension, which you notice on longer commutes and poorer surfaces. The more powerful models give you more of everything – a larger battery, stronger brakes and construction for hills, heavier riders or riding beyond tarmac – but they also weigh more and are bulkier on stairs and in a car.
Start from your journey, not from the highest figure. If you ride a long way between charges, an electric scooter with long range is worth more than extra motor power, and if you ride on gravel or poor tarmac, an electric scooter for terrain and gravel roads is a better fit. If you want to sit on longer trips, an electric scooter with saddle makes a bigger difference than a larger battery. All electric scooters at Wheelyshop are delivered with free delivery, a 2-year warranty and 14-day returns.
How to choose the right electric scooter
A broad range is easier to navigate when you start with practical limits rather than maximum performance. Note the normal journey distance, hills and uneven surfaces, where the scooter will be stored and whether stairs, a car or public transport form part of the trip. You can then remove models that are too heavy, too large or in the wrong vehicle class before comparing prices. Wondering whether an e-bike would suit you better? Read our scooter vs e-bike comparison.
1. Electric scooter on public roads – check version and rules
The model name alone does not always identify the rules that apply. Speed version, continuous rated power, throttle or assistance function, construction and approval can differ between regions and variants. Check the documentation for the exact market version and consult Your Europe’s country-by-country road-rules overview before riding on public roads. A slower riding mode, an app setting or a similar model name does not by itself change the vehicle’s construction or legal status.
2. Electric scooter range – allow a practical margin
The stated range is a comparison under the manufacturer's test conditions, not a guarantee for every trip. Temperature, rider weight, tyre pressure, speed, accelerations, hills and surfaces affect the outcome. Assume a return trip between charges and choose a reasonable margin for cold days and battery ageing. Also compare charging time and whether charging can take place where the vehicle is normally stored; a large battery helps less if it makes everyday charging impractical. Tyre pressure, speed and charging habits all matter – see our guide on how to increase your range.
3. Light or powerful electric scooter – weight and folded size
A folding electric scooter is not necessarily easy to carry. Check before you buy:
- Total weight – and where the carrying point is.
- Folded dimensions – length and height, and whether the handlebars still take up space.
- The spaces it must pass – lift, storage room, car boot or the space under the desk.
- Stairs – if a flight of stairs is part of every trip, a few kilos and a good grip may matter more than extra battery.
4. Tyres, suspension and brakes – match the e-scooter to the surface
Larger air-filled tyres and suspension can provide more comfort on joints and uneven asphalt, but affect weight, dimensions and maintenance. Pneumatic tyres need the correct pressure and can be punctured; solid tyres reduce that kind of maintenance but can provide a firmer ride. Braking systems must be compared together with the vehicle's weight and intended use. Check the type of brake, need for adjustment and availability of wear parts in the product information rather than assuming that a particular brake name alone makes a model the best.
5. Electric scooter for adults in daily use – fit and ownership
Handlebar height, deck space, recommended rider height and maximum load must suit the rider. Maximum load is a technical limit, not a comfort rating, and luggage counts towards the total. Also check lighting, reflectors, the warning device, mudguards and whether common wear parts can be identified. For an existing model, use the spare-parts portal as a starting point; always match the model name, generation, dimensions and connector before ordering.
Choose by your most common journey:
- City commuting: low weight, handy folded dimensions and range that covers a return trip with margin. Start in the full range of electric scooters and filter by weight and range.
- Long range: a larger battery and charging time that fits your daily routine weigh more than top speed – compare models for longer distances between charges.
- Sit comfortably: on longer or calmer trips the saddle makes a bigger difference than the motor; see the selection of models with a saddle.
- Gravel and poor surfaces: larger air-filled tyres, suspension and brakes that match the surface – see models built for terrain and gravel roads.
- For children: size by the child's height and weight, riding modes that can start slowly and brakes the child can reach – compare electric scooters for kids and read the sizing section there before you decide.
Shortcuts: electric scooter with seat, long range, off road and kids
For a smaller editorial selection, start with the electric-scooter comparison. The electric-scooter sale shows models that currently meet the promotional conditions, but the choice should still be based on intended use and specifications. Browse electric-scooter accessories for related equipment and verify the fit and compatibility with the exact model.
The right electric scooter for you – compare the last two candidates
When only two candidates remain, record the same information for both:
- Full model name and regional version
- Continuous rated power and top speed
- Total weight and folded dimensions
- Stated range and charging time
- Tyres, brakes and maximum load
Mark missing information instead of guessing. The model with the highest figure is not automatically the right one – choose the combination of limits and features that works for your journey, storage and service plan.
Rules and safety for electric scooters in Sweden
An electric scooter counts as a bicycle in Swedish traffic when it is designed for at most 20 km/h and has a motor with at most 250 W continuous rated power. Then you ride on a cycle path where one exists, otherwise in the carriageway – never on a pavement or footpath. The electric scooter must have working brakes and a bell, and riding in the dark requires front and rear lights and reflectors. A helmet is mandatory for riders under 15 and strongly recommended for everyone, and you must not carry a passenger: an electric scooter is made for one person. You, as the rider, are responsible for your model meeting the requirements – so check the speed version and rated power for the exact variant you buy, not just the model name. Models that go faster or have higher power than the limits above may not be ridden in public traffic.
Rules can change, so treat this as a short version. Read the full review in our guide to electric scooter rules, see what applies to younger riders under can children ride an electric scooter, and always check the current information at Transportstyrelsen if you are unsure.
Service, spare parts and repair
What wears on an electric scooter is predictable: tyres, brake pads, cables and eventually the battery. At Wheelyshop you will find spare parts for electric scooters gathered by model – always match model name, generation, dimensions and connection before you order, and ask us if any detail is missing. You can do a lot yourself with the right guidance: the guide to repairing your electric scooter goes through troubleshooting step by step, and with simple electric scooter maintenance – tyre pressure, brake checks, cleaning and good charging habits – both range and brakes last longer.
If the fault is covered by the warranty, you should not start taking it apart yourself. All electric scooters at Wheelyshop have a 2-year warranty; how a warranty case works and what is covered is on our warranty page. Always start there or with our customer service, and we will help you onward before you order parts on your own. Together with free delivery on electric scooters and 14-day returns, that is how we handle service as an online shop: parts, guides and warranty – without you needing to drop the vehicle off anywhere.
Frequently asked questions
How much range does an electric scooter have, and how much do I need?
Calculate a normal return journey between charges and add margin for cold weather, hills, load and battery ageing. Treat the stated figure as comparison data, not a guaranteed outcome.
Can I ride an electric scooter in the bike lane?
In most European countries an e-scooter belongs in the bike lane where one exists, otherwise on the road – never on the pavement. Speed limits, minimum age and approval requirements differ by country, so check the national rules before riding on public roads.
Do I need a helmet on an electric scooter, and is there an age limit?
Rules vary by country, but a helmet is always recommended – a scooter is faster than it feels. Check the minimum age where you ride, and choose a model that suits the rider's height, weight and experience.
Can I ride an electric scooter in winter?
Yes, with the right preparation. Expect shorter range in the cold, charge the battery indoors and check tyre pressure and brakes more often. Choose a model with a good IP rating and rinse off salt and slush after riding.
How do I find spare parts for my electric scooter?
Match the full model name, generation, dimensions and connector. Ask before ordering when any of those details is missing.
What does it cost to charge an electric scooter?
The cost depends on the battery capacity and your electricity price per kilowatt hour: a larger battery costs more to fill, but also lasts longer. In the guide to what it costs to charge an electric scooter we work it through per charge and per distance, so you can put in your own figures.
How long does the battery in an electric scooter last?
The battery ages gradually and loses range over time; how fast depends on charging habits, temperature and how deeply it is discharged. Charge regularly, avoid storing the electric scooter for a long time with a completely empty or completely full battery, and follow the manual for your model. More on the lifespan of battery, motor and tyres is in the guide to how long an electric scooter lasts.
Can you ride an electric scooter in the rain?
It depends on the model's IP rating and what the manual allows – the rating states how well the electric scooter tolerates splashes of water, but it does not make it waterproof in every situation. Ride more carefully on wet surfaces, wipe the vehicle afterwards and charge only when the connectors are dry. In the guide to electric scooters in rain and IP ratings we explain what the designations mean in practice.
Can you take an electric scooter on trains and buses?
Each transport operator decides, and the rules differ – a folded electric scooter is not treated the same everywhere. Check the terms for the route you are travelling before you go, and choose a model with low weight and small folded dimensions if public transport is part of your daily life. Current rules per operator are in the guide to electric scooters on trains and buses.
