Choosing the right OneSport electric bike – a guide to the models
Here we walk through the series, how to interpret range and motor output, which frame type suits you, what applies on European roads and how to look after the bike.
The series of OneSport electric bike – from OT02 to OT30 Pro
The OneSport OT02 and OT02 Pro are the smallest format: folding, 14.5 and 17.2 kg respectively, a 187 Wh battery, 25 km of stated range and a 2–3 hour charge. The OT02 has 16-inch wheels and 4 gears, the OT02 Pro 20-inch wheels, 7 gears and an 80 kg maximum load. The OneSport OT05, OT05 Pro and OT12 are commuter bikes on 27.5-inch wheels with front suspension, a rear rack and a display: the OT05 with 655 Wh and 120 km, the OT05 Pro with 810 Wh, 130 km and an app, the OT12 with 468 Wh, 65 km and 44 Nm.
The OneSport OT16-2 and OT16 Max are 20-inch folding all-rounders with a rear rack: the OT16-2 with 250 W and 749 Wh, the OT16 Max with 500 W, 864 Wh and hydraulic brakes. The OT08, OT08 Pro, W66 and W77 are 20-inch fat bikes with 65 Nm, and the OT08 Pro has dual 48V 18Ah batteries and 190 km of stated range. The OT01 is a cargo bike with 650 W, 1296 Wh, a front basket and a 150 kg maximum load, and the OT30 Pro is a folding tricycle with 500 W, a rear basket and a 180 kg maximum load.
Range and battery on a OneSport electric bike
Stated range runs from 25 km for the OT02 series, through 65–100 km for the OT12, W66, OT08, W77, OT30 Pro and OT01, to 120–130 km for the OT05, OT16-2, OT16 Max and OT05 Pro and 190 km for the OT08 Pro. The figures apply under ideal conditions in the lowest assistance mode. In practice, count on 60–75 percent of that, less in cold weather, headwind, hills or the highest assistance mode. In pure electric mode the range drops sharply – the manufacturer quotes around 45 km for the W77 without pedalling, for example. All models have a removable battery, so you can charge indoors and protect it from cold and theft. Compare the watt-hours: 187 Wh in the OT02 is enough for short city trips, 655–864 Wh in the OT05, OT08 and OT16 Max covers several days of commuting, and 1728 Wh in the OT08 Pro is built for long days out. Motor, torque and weight
Rated motor output is 250 W in the OT02 series, OT12, OT05, OT05 Pro, OT16-2 and W77 (500 W peak), 500 W in the OT16 Max, OT08, OT08 Pro, W66 and OT30 Pro, and 650 W in the OT01. For hills, torque matters more than watts: 30 Nm in the OT02 series is enough in the city, 40–45 Nm in the OT05 and OT16 series gives steady help uphill, and 60–65 Nm in the fat bikes, OT01 and OT30 Pro handles steep climbs with a load. Most are rated for 20–30 degree gradients, the tricycle for 15.
Weight decides whether you can lift the bike. The OT02 at 14.5 kg and OT02 Pro at 17.2 kg you carry up stairs, the commuter and OT16 models at 28–31.5 kg you would rather roll than carry, while the fat bikes, OT01 and OT30 Pro at 37.5–43.3 kg want ground-floor storage. A heavier bike also means a higher maximum load, up to 180 kg for the W66 and OT30 Pro.
Frame and comfort – folding, fat bike or tricycle
Several models fold: the OT02, OT02 Pro, OT16-2, OT16 Max and the OT30 Pro tricycle, for anyone combining the bike with train or car. Several have fat tyres: the OT12 plus the 20-inch OT08, OT08 Pro, W66 and W77, which grip on gravel, snow and kerbs. Full suspension comes on the W66, W77 and OT08 Pro, the rest have front suspension except the OT02 series. Most models have hydraulic brakes, and all except the OT01 have gears. A rear rack is included on the commuter, OT16 and OT08 models and the OT01, which also has a front basket, while the OT30 Pro has a large rear basket. Rules in Europe for a OneSport electric bike
Under the EU-wide pedelec (EPAC) definition an e-bike counts as a bicycle if the motor has a rated output of no more than 250 W and only assists up to 25 km/h, with any throttle limited to 6 km/h. Then you can ride in the cycle lane without registration or a driving licence, and the helmet rules for cyclists in your country apply. The following OneSport models meet that: the OT02, OT02 Pro, OT12, OT16-2 and OT05, all with 250 W and 25 km/h. A stronger motor or assistance above 25 km/h formally makes the bike a speed pedelec or moped, with registration, insurance, a helmet and a driving licence typically required and the exact rules varying by country; without them it can only be ridden on enclosed private land.
That applies to the following models: the W77 (500 W peak, 45 km/h), OT16 Max (500 W, 50 km/h), OT05 Pro (assistance to 30 km/h), OT08, OT08 Pro and W66 (500 W), OT30 Pro (500 W, 40 km/h) and OT01 (650 W). The 25 km/h speed limiter on the W77, OT16 Max, OT05 Pro and OT30 Pro does not change the classification when the motor is stronger than 250 W. If you take the bike on the train or up stairs, the OT02 at 14.5 kg or OT02 Pro at 17.2 kg is the easiest to live with. If you need to carry heavy loads, the OT01 with a front basket and 150 kg maximum load is built for it.
Does a OneSport electric bike fold?
