Buying guide
Hoverboard for kids – choose by fit and balance
A hoverboard responds to body movements and has two side-by-side wheels, with no handlebar. Choose a model suited to your child's height, weight and experience. Start with fit and the model's instructions before comparing lights, speakers or other extras.
In short
- Check the recommended age, rider height and both minimum and maximum rider weight.
- Compare riding modes, suitable surfaces and how your child can practise starting, turning and stopping.
- Range depends on rider weight, terrain and riding style.
- This category covers complete models intended for children or teenagers; accessories and electric unicycles belong elsewhere.
How to choose a suitable hoverboard
Age, height and rider weight
An age recommendation is a starting point, not the only measure. Your child must also meet the model's height and weight requirements and be able to follow the instructions. Check both weight limits. Do not choose a larger or faster model simply for a child to grow into.
Riding modes and the first session
Check whether the model has a beginner mode and how to activate it. Practise on a flat, dry, clear surface with an adult nearby. Begin with getting on and off, balancing and stopping in control. Follow the model's instructions for helmets and other protective equipment.
Wheels, surfaces and range
Large wheels or deep tread do not make every model suitable for rough terrain. Check the surfaces and gradients permitted by the manufacturer. Compare range alongside the battery, charging time and the conditions behind the stated figure; different riders can achieve different distances.
Hoverboard or another ride-on vehicle?
A hoverboard requires balance without a handlebar. An electric scooter has a handlebar, while an electric unicycle has a different design and riding technique. Compare all kids' ride-on vehicles if you are unsure which type suits your child. Check where the specific product may be used; being in a children's collection does not establish road approval.
Frequently asked questions
Which hoverboard suits my child?
Start with the model's recommended age, height and weight limits. Then check riding modes and your child's ability to balance and stop. An age label alone is not enough.
How is a hoverboard different from an electric unicycle?
A hoverboard has two side-by-side wheels and separate footpads. An electric unicycle is a different vehicle type with a different design and riding technique, so speed alone is not a useful comparison.
Can every hoverboard be used outdoors?
It depends on the model's instructions for surfaces, moisture and operating conditions. Deep tread or LED lights do not prove suitability for all outdoor environments. Check the instructions before buying.
