TST electric bike – R002, R002 Plus and R7 at Wheelyshop

TST was launched in 2021 by a company with roots in California and builds well-equipped e-bikes at a competitive price. At Wheelyshop you will find the R002 and R002 Plus – the same rugged bike with a 15 Ah and 25 Ah battery and 105 and 160 km of claimed range respectively – and the R7 with a moped-inspired shape, seat and footpegs. All of them have a rear-hub motor with 250 W rated and 1,200 W peak output, wide 20-inch off-road tyres, full suspension and hydraulic disc brakes; weight is 36.9–37.5 kg. The brand suits you if you want a powerful, comfortable TST electric bike for gravel, light terrain and long rides – note that the models formally fall outside the EU pedelec class. At Wheelyshop you get free delivery on all electric vehicles, a 2-year warranty and spare parts.

In short

  • TST electric bikes with 105–160 km of claimed range, 720–1,200 Wh batteries, 1,200 W peak output and 36.9–37.5 kg.
  • Shared technology: a 90 Nm rear-hub motor, Shimano 7 gears, 20-inch pneumatic tyres, full suspension, hydraulic disc brakes, an app, indicators and a removable, lockable battery.
  • The R002 for everyday commuting, the R002 Plus for the longest range (25 Ah, 160 km), the R7 for moped-inspired style with a seat, footpegs and a 204 kg maximum load.
  • Rules in Europe: a pedelec may have at most 250 W and assistance up to 25 km/h. TST quotes 1,200 W peak output and a 45 km/h technical top speed, so the models formally fall outside the pedelec class and, without registration, are ridden on enclosed private land.
  • At Wheelyshop: free delivery on all electric vehicles, a 2-year warranty and spare parts.

Choosing the right TST electric bike – a guide to the models

The TST models share the same technical foundation, so the choice comes down to battery size, riding position and load. Here we go through the differences, range, hills and what applies on European roads.

The models: R002, R002 Plus and R7

The R002 is the base model with a 48 V 15 Ah battery (720 Wh), 105 km of claimed range, 36.9 kg and a charging time of about 7 hours. The R002 Plus is the same bike with a bigger battery: 48 V 25 Ah (1,200 Wh) gives 160 km of claimed range, weight is 37.5 kg and charging takes about 7.5 hours. The R7 has the same 15 Ah battery and 105 km as the R002 but a moped-inspired shape with a seat and rear footpegs, a 204 kg maximum load instead of 200 kg, 5–6 hours of charging and 37.5 kg. All of them have a low step-through, a rear rack and mudguards, suit riders of about 157–193 cm and do not fold.

Range and battery on a TST electric bike

The claimed range – 105 km for the R002 and R7, 160 km for the R002 Plus – applies under favourable conditions. Expect 60–75 percent in real-world riding: around 65–80 km on the 15 Ah models and 95–120 km on the R002 Plus, depending on assistance level, wind, cold, hills and how much you pedal yourself. Getting more kilometres out of every charge is covered in our guide on how to increase e-scooter and e-bike range.

The 48 V battery is removable and lockable on all models, so you can charge indoors and lock it into the frame when the bike is parked outside. If you want to compare with other e-bikes built for long day rides, you will find them among our long-range electric bikes.

Motor, hills and weight

The motor sits in the rear hub and is quoted at 250 W rated output with 1,200 W peak output and 90 Nm of torque. You notice it on hills: TST quotes a 30° climb, and the torque takes you up steep gravel climbs without standing on the pedals. Shimano 7 gears give the right cadence with and without assistance, and the two riding modes offer an economical mode for range and a more powerful one for terrain. Top speed is technically 45 km/h, but a 25 km/h limiter is available and is set following the instruction video.

The 36.9–37.5 kg weight is typical of a full-suspension e-bike with wide tyres and a big battery – not something you carry up stairs, but easy to handle once you are in the saddle. Maximum load is 200 kg on the R002 and R002 Plus and 204 kg on the R7, so the models cope with heavy riders and serious luggage.

Comfort: tyres, suspension and brakes

Every TST model rolls on wide 20-inch pneumatic off-road tyres that absorb gravel and kerbs and grip on loose ground. Full suspension with a front fork and rear shock absorber, adjustable with lockout, lets you lock the suspension on tarmac and open it in the woods. Hydraulic disc brakes front and rear give even braking power even fully loaded.

The equipment is complete: an LCD display, an app, front and rear lights with integrated indicators, an ignition key and an IPX5 rating. The R7 adds a seat and footpegs for a moped-like riding position.

Rules in Europe for TST electric bikes

Across the EU an e-bike counts as a bicycle (pedelec) if the motor has no more than 250 W of continuous output and only assists up to 25 km/h while you pedal. Bicycle rules then apply: the cycle path, no registration, insurance or licence, while helmet and minimum-age rules vary between countries. A more powerful motor, or a throttle that drives the bike above 6 km/h without pedalling, instead puts it in the moped class (speed pedelec or moped, depending on the country).

The TST models quote 250 W rated but 1,200 W peak output and a 45 km/h technical top speed. The 25 km/h limiter does not automatically give pedelec class, and registration, insurance and a licence may be required. The R002, R002 Plus and R7 therefore formally fall outside the pedelec class and, without registration, should be ridden on enclosed private land. Check the EU overview of road rules and safety and your national rules before you buy. We always recommend a helmet – see our helmets. The EU rules on pedal assistance, throttles and speed limits are explained in our guide to electric bike laws in Europe.

Frequently asked questions

Is a TST electric bike legal in Europe?

Not as an ordinary bicycle. A pedelec may have at most 250 W of continuous output and assistance up to 25 km/h. TST quotes 250 W rated but 1,200 W peak output and a 45 km/h technical top speed, and a 25 km/h limiter does not automatically give pedelec class. The R002, R002 Plus and R7 therefore formally fall outside the pedelec class and, without registration, should be ridden on enclosed private land – check your national rules.

How far does a TST electric bike go on a charge?

The R002 and R7 have 48 V 15 Ah (720 Wh) and 105 km of claimed range, the R002 Plus has 48 V 25 Ah (1,200 Wh) and 160 km. In real-world riding you should expect 60–75 percent, i.e. around 65–80 km and 95–120 km respectively depending on assistance level, terrain, wind and temperature.

Which TST electric bike is best for commuting?

The R002 is plenty for everyday commuting with its 105 km of claimed range, Shimano 7 gears and rear rack. If you have a long way to work or want to charge less often, the R002 Plus with a 25 Ah battery and 160 km is the best choice. The R7 suits you if you want moped-inspired style with a seat and footpegs. Remember that none of the models is pedelec class in the EU.

How much do the TST R002 and R7 weigh, and do they fold?

The R002 weighs 36.9 kg, the R002 Plus and R7 weigh 37.5 kg. None of the models folds – they have a rugged frame with a low step-through, full suspension and wide 20-inch tyres, which makes them stable but not suited to carrying up stairs. The battery, however, is removable, so you can take it indoors to charge.

Are spare parts available for TST electric bikes?

Yes. Wear parts such as tyres, brake pads, chain and cassette are standard components since TST uses Shimano 7 gears and hydraulic disc brakes. We help you with model-specific parts such as the battery, charger and display via the spare parts portal or customer service, and every TST model at Wheelyshop has a 2-year warranty.
