Choosing the right LOOKROAD electric bike – a guide to the models

The models share the same core idea of long range and a serious motor, but differ in wheel size, weight, suspension and use.

LOOKROAD electric bike in the series L20, L26 and L28

The L20 series is fully suspended fat bikes with 20-inch wheels. The L20 is the most powerful with a 1500 W motor, 80 Nm, 48V 20Ah (960 Wh), 130 km of stated range, hydraulic disc brakes and 7 gears – and at 39 kg also the heaviest. The L20 MIN has 1000 W, 65 Nm, 48V 15.6Ah (749 Wh), 90 km of range, mechanical disc brakes and 36 kg. The L26 is the only folding model: a 26-inch fat bike with 1000 W, 65 Nm, 48V 15Ah (720 Wh), 90 km of range, 21 gears, full suspension and 32 kg.

The L28 series is built for city and country roads. The L28 and L28 MIN have 28-inch wheels with regular pneumatic tyres, a 500 W motor, 40 Nm, front suspension, a basket and 29 kg of weight – the L28 with 36V 23Ah (828 Wh), 140 km and hydraulic brakes, the L28 MIN with 36V 18Ah (648 Wh), 120 km and mechanical disc brakes. The L28 Max combines 27.5-inch off-road tyres with 750 W, 65 Nm, the range's biggest battery at 48V 30Ah (1440 Wh), 160 km of range, hydraulic brakes and cruise control, at 31 kg.

Range and battery – how far you get

The batteries span from 648 Wh in the L28 MIN to 1440 Wh in the L28 Max, and the manufacturer's range from 90 to 160 km. Expect roughly 60–75 percent of the stated figure in reality – the lowest assistance mode and flat roads give the most, while the highest riding mode, hills, headwind and cold pull the number down. Every model has a removable battery with a key lock for charging indoors; charging takes 6–8 hours, and 8–9 hours for the L28 Max. Compare with our electric bikes with long range. Getting more kilometres out of every charge is covered in our guide on how to increase e-scooter and e-bike range.

Motor, torque and hills

The motors sit at 500–1500 W rated and torque at 40–80 Nm; the L20 is the strongest with 80 Nm, followed by the L26, L20 MIN and L28 Max with 65 Nm. The fat bikes L26, L20 and L20 MIN handle gradients of up to 40 degrees, the L28 Max 30 degrees and the L28 series with 500 W and 40 Nm 25 degrees – plenty for city hills but not steep trails. Maximum load is 150 kg for the L26, L20 and L20 MIN but 100 kg for the L28 series, worth knowing if you ride with luggage.

Frame, tyres and comfort

Most of the models have wide off-road tyres: the L26 at 26 inches, the L20 and L20 MIN at 20 inches and the L28 Max at 27.5 inches – you will find more among our fat bikes. The L26, L20 and L20 MIN are fully suspended, the L28 series has a suspension fork. The L26 is the only one that folds. Recommended rider height starts at 155 cm for the L28 and L28 MIN, 160 cm for the L28 Max, 165 cm for the L20 series and 170 cm for the L26.

  • Brakes: hydraulic disc brakes on the L20, L28 and L28 Max, mechanical on the L26, L20 MIN and L28 MIN.
  • Gears: 21 on the L26, 7 on the others.
  • On all of them: mudguards, lights front and rear, a USB port and IP54; a basket on the L28 and L28 MIN, cruise control on the L28 Max.

LOOKROAD electric bike and rules in Europe

Across the EU a vehicle counts as an electric bicycle (pedelec or EPAC) only if the motor is rated at no more than 250 W and assistance stops at 25 km/h. All LOOKROAD models have a 500–1500 W rated motor and a technical top speed of 35–60 km/h and are therefore formally speed pedelecs or mopeds – even though they ship with a 25 km/h limiter. The limiter restricts the speed but does not change the classification. On public roads and cycle paths that means registration, insurance, a helmet and a driving licence or moped permit; without that only enclosed private land applies. The exact requirements vary by country, so read more about road rules in the EU. If you want a model that counts as a bicycle, there are 250 W options among all our electric bikes; a helmet from our helmets is wise whatever the vehicle. The EU rules on pedal assistance, throttles and speed limits are explained in our guide to electric bike laws in Europe.

Frequently asked questions

Is a LOOKROAD electric bike legal in Europe?

Yes to own, but not as an ordinary bicycle. All models – L26, L20, L20 MIN, L28, L28 MIN and L28 Max – have a 500–1500 W rated motor and are therefore formally treated as speed pedelecs or mopeds under the EU rules, despite the included 25 km/h limiter. On public roads that requires registration, insurance, a helmet and a driving licence or moped permit; otherwise enclosed private land applies. The details vary by country, so check your national rules.

How far does a LOOKROAD electric bike go on a charge?

The manufacturer states 90 km for the L26 and L20 MIN, 120 km for the L28 MIN, 130 km for the L20, 140 km for the L28 and 160 km for the L28 Max with its 1440 Wh battery. In practice you should expect 60–75 percent of that, depending on assistance mode, terrain, weight and temperature.

Which LOOKROAD electric bike is best for commuting?

The L28 or L28 MIN is the lightest at 29 kg, with 28-inch wheels, front suspension and a front basket – handy in city traffic. If you commute long distances, the L28 Max with 160 km of stated range and cruise control is the stronger choice. Remember that all models are moped class and require registration on public roads.

Is a LOOKROAD electric bike foldable?

Only the L26 folds. It has 26-inch fat bike tyres, a 1000 W motor, suspension front and rear, 21 gears and weighs 32 kg. The other models have a fixed frame.

Are spare parts available for LOOKROAD?

Yes, wear parts such as brakes, tyres and chain are ordered through Wheelyshop's spare parts portal, and every model has a removable battery and an included tool kit. Each bike comes with a 2-year warranty, and our customer service helps with troubleshooting and warranty cases.
