Choosing the right YANGOR electric bike – a guide to the models
The range covers two completely different needs. Ask yourself three questions: does the bike need to be allowed on the cycle path, how far do you need to go on a charge and does it need to fold. Below we go through the models, the technology and the European rules.
Series and models: H700, H19 and Y20
The H-series YANGOR electric bikes are built for the city. The H700 is the light city bike: 21 kg, 27.5-inch wheels, a 250 W motor with a torque sensor that senses how hard you pedal, Microshift 7-speed gearing, hydraulic disc brakes and front suspension. It comes with a 36 V 8.7 Ah battery (69.6 km) or 36 V 10.4 Ah (85 km) and is recommended for riders of 175–185 cm. Note that the H700 ships without lights. The H19 is the folding model with 20-inch wheels, a folding aluminium frame and folding pedals, full suspension, 7 gears, a headlight and an adjustable handlebar. It weighs 23 kg, comes with 36 V 7.8 Ah (46.8 km) or 36 V 10 Ah (60 km) and suits riders of 150–170 cm.
The Y20 series is fat bikes with 20-inch off-road tyres, a 500 W motor, 80 Nm of torque, Shimano 7-speed gearing, hydraulic disc brakes, lights front and rear, indicators and a horn. The Y20 (40 kg) and Y20 Plus (41 kg) have a 48 V 15 Ah battery and 100 km of range – the difference is that the Plus has full suspension while the Y20 has front suspension. The Y20 Pro (45 kg) and Y20 Pro Max (46 kg) have dual batteries of 15 Ah plus 20 Ah, 1,680 Wh in total and 210 km of range; the Pro Max is the fully suspended one of the two. Range and battery on a YANGOR electric bike
The batteries range from 281 Wh in the H19 7.8 Ah to 1,680 Wh in the Y20 Pro and Y20 Pro Max, and every model has a removable battery so you can charge indoors. Charging takes 4.5 hours for the H700, 5 hours for the H19 and 7.5 hours for the Y20 models; the Pro and Pro Max have dual charging ports so both batteries can charge at the same time. The stated ranges apply to the lowest assistance level on flat roads – expect 60–75 percent in real riding with mixed assistance, hills, headwind and cold. An H700 rated at 85 km therefore often gives 50–65 km in everyday use, which is enough for several days of commuting. If you need to go really far, the Y20 Pro and Y20 Pro Max with 210 km are the obvious choices. You will find more models with a big battery under electric bikes with long range.
Motor, torque and weight
The H700 and H19 have a 250 W motor with 50–60 Nm of torque, which is plenty for city hills and means they may be ridden as ordinary bicycles. The H700's torque sensor gives a smooth feel where the assistance follows your own effort, while the H19 uses a cadence sensor and has walk assist up to 6 km/h. The Y20 series has a 500 W motor and 80 Nm, which you notice on gravel, sand and looser surfaces. All models are rated for a 10° gradient and have a recommended maximum weight of 120 kg.
Weight differs a lot between YANGOR electric bikes: the H700 at 21 kg and the H19 at 23 kg can be lifted up a flight of stairs, while the Y20 fat bikes at 40–46 kg are best rolled on level ground – bear that in mind if you live high up without a lift.
Frame, comfort and equipment
The H700 has an aluminium frame, front suspension and 27.5-inch pneumatic tyres for an easy-rolling city bike. The H19 combines a folding aluminium frame with full suspension, 20-inch wheels and an adjustable handlebar. The Y20 models are built on a steel frame with wide off-road tyres; the Y20 and Y20 Pro have front suspension, the Y20 Plus and Y20 Pro Max suspension both front and rear. All have 7 gears, an LCD display and three riding modes. The Y20 series also has an ignition key, and a rear rack is available as an option on the Y20. Rules in Europe for YANGOR electric bikes
Across the EU an electric bike counts as a bicycle (pedelec or EPAC) if the motor is rated at no more than 250 W, assists only up to 25 km/h and any throttle does not drive the bike faster than 6 km/h. That means the cycle path, no registration and helmet rules that vary by country. The H700 and H19 meet this in both battery variants: 250 W, assistance up to 25 km/h and no throttle. The Y20, Y20 Plus, Y20 Pro and Y20 Pro Max have a 500 W rated motor and are therefore formally speed pedelecs or mopeds even though assistance stops at 25 km/h – a 25 km/h limiter does not give bicycle class when the motor is stronger than 250 W. Public roads then require registration, insurance, a helmet and a driving licence or moped permit; otherwise they are intended for enclosed private land.
