Choosing the right Hikerboy electric scooter – a buying guide to the Curtis Dual Pro

Hikerboy electric scooter in three colours – Curtis Dual Pro

The Curtis Dual Pro comes in gold, grey or red, and the technology is the same whatever the colour. The scooter has 10 × 2.125-inch pneumatic tyres, two front spring shock absorbers, front and rear lights, front and rear indicators, an electric horn and cruise control. It is built for riders between 130 and 200 cm and a recommended maximum weight of 100 kg. Folded it measures 1,138 × 570 × 525 mm, so it fits in most car boots. In the box you get a charger, a tool kit and a manual.

Range and battery – how far you get in practice

The battery is 48 V and 10.4 Ah, which corresponds to roughly 499 Wh. The manufacturer quotes up to 40 km, but that assumes a light rider, a smooth surface and an economical riding mode. Expect 60–75 percent in reality, i.e. 25–30 km, and less if you weigh close to 100 kg, ride in the cold or use both motors on hills. For a commute of 10–15 km each way that is enough with margin, and a full charge takes about 5.5 hours. The battery is not removable, so the scooter needs to stand near a socket. Dual motors and hills – why the Hikerboy electric scooter is strong uphill

The Curtis Dual Pro has a motor in each wheel with 250 W rated output each, 500 W together, with 1,000 W peak output when both work flat out. That gives better grip on wet surfaces, smoother acceleration and a quoted climbing ability of about 14 degrees, roughly 25 percent. Four riding modes let you choose between economical riding and full power on hills, and the TCS traction control curbs wheel spin on slippery surfaces. The 21 kg weight is reasonable for a dual-motor scooter but noticeable if you carry it up several flights of stairs every day.

Comfort and brakes – pneumatic tyres, front suspension and E-ABS

The ten-inch pneumatic tyres together with the two front spring shock absorbers take the edge off cobblestones, kerbs and uneven tarmac. The rear wheel has no suspension, and the tyres are not puncture-proof, so check the pressure regularly. The brakes are disc brakes front and rear complemented by electronic E-ABS on both wheels, which counteracts locking under hard braking. IPX5 handles rain and splashes, but not hosing down or deep puddles. The app shows riding data and supports Apple Find My. Add a sturdy lock from our locks for electric scooters. Rules in Europe for a Hikerboy electric scooter

Here it is important to be clear. In most EU countries an e-scooter can only be ridden as a bicycle if it is limited to 20–25 km/h and, usually, no more than 250 W rated motor output. The Curtis Dual Pro is built for 25 km/h, which is within the speed limit of many countries, but it has 500 W rated output and no documented limiter that brings it down to 20 km/h. In countries that apply the 250 W limit it therefore does not qualify for the bicycle class and is formally treated as a moped or motor vehicle: without national registration, insurance and the licence your country requires, it may only be ridden on enclosed private land, not on cycle paths or public roads. Helmet and age rules also vary, so check the EU road rules and safety overview and your national rules before you ride.
