Choosing the right Dualtron electric scooter – a guide to the models
The range forms clear steps: 9-inch models, mid-range models around 40 kg with over 100 km of claimed range and heavy high-performance models from 51 kg. The series – from the Togo and Popular to the Storm and X
The Togo is the entry model: 24.4 kg, a single 650 W motor, a 48 V 15 Ah battery and 50 km of claimed range. The Popular steps up to two motors (2 × 450 W), 52 V 25 Ah and 60 km at 32.5 kg. The latest Victor Limited has 2 × 1,300 W, 60 V 37.1 Ah, 115 km of claimed range and 39.1 kg, while the New Achilleus has 2 × 1,400 W, 11-inch wheels and 120 km.
The Alien and Thunder 3 share a 72 V 40 Ah battery and 2 × 2,500 W rated, but the Thunder 3 is quoted at 170 km against the Alien's 125 km, while the Alien has four-piston brakes and 11,200 W peak output. The New Storm Ltd has 84 V 45 Ah, 2 × 5,750 W and 200 km of claimed range at 55.6 kg. The X Limited is the flagship: 84 V 60 Ah, 13-inch wheels, a recommended maximum rider weight of 150 kg, 200 km and 82.9 kg.
Range and battery on a Dualtron electric scooter
The manufacturer quotes 50 km for the Togo, 60 km for the Popular, 115–125 km for the Victor Limited, New Achilleus and Alien, 170 km for the Thunder 3 and 200 km for the New Storm Ltd and X Limited. Expect 50–70 percent of the claimed figure in real riding – rider weight, speed, cold and hills all reduce the range. It is worth comparing battery energy: the Togo has 720 Wh, the Popular 1,300 Wh, the Victor Limited 2,226 Wh, the Alien and Thunder 3 2,880 Wh, the New Storm Ltd 3,780 Wh and the X Limited a full 5,040 Wh.
The Togo charges in 8–10 hours and the Popular in 10–12 hours. Every model from the Victor Limited upwards has dual charging ports, and with two chargers the time is cut considerably – the Alien is quoted at 4–8 hours and the New Storm Ltd at 5–11 hours. Motor, hills and weight
Most Dualtron models have dual motors, which gives stable grip on hills and loose surfaces. Quoted climbing ability is 25° for the Togo, 30° for the New Achilleus, 35° for the Victor Limited, Alien, X Limited and Thunder 3 and 37° for the Popular and New Storm Ltd. Rated output runs from 650 W to 11,500 W, and the X Limited peaks at 12,000 W.
Take the weight seriously. The Togo (24.4 kg) and Popular (32.5 kg) can be lifted into a car, the Victor Limited and New Achilleus (39–42 kg) need level storage, and the Alien, Thunder 3 and New Storm Ltd (51–56 kg) as well as the X Limited (82.9 kg) are ones you roll, not carry. All of them fold, but measure your boot and storage space before you choose.
Comfort, tyres and brakes on Dualtron electric scooters
Every Dualtron electric scooter rolls on pneumatic tyres – 9 inches on the Togo and Popular, 10 inches on the Victor Limited, 11 inches on the New Achilleus, Alien, Thunder 3 and New Storm Ltd and 13 inches on the X Limited – and all have both front and rear suspension. Indicators are fitted on every model, ambient light on all except the Togo, and cruise control on the models from the Victor Limited upwards.
The brakes follow the price level. The Togo and Popular have drum brakes with E-ABS, which are perfectly adequate at 40–55 km/h. From the Victor Limited upwards there are hydraulic disc brakes with E-ABS, and the Alien and X Limited have four-piston callipers for even more stopping power. No model has a saddle. Rules in Europe for a Dualtron electric scooter
To be ridden as a bicycle in most EU countries, an e-scooter has to be limited to 20–25 km/h and usually no more than 250 W rated motor output. No Dualtron model meets that – even the Togo has 650 W and 40 km/h, and the bigger models sit at 900–11,500 W. All of them are therefore formally treated as mopeds or motor vehicles: on public roads they need national registration, insurance and the licence your country requires, otherwise they belong on enclosed private land or a track.
The Victor Limited, New Achilleus, Alien, X Limited and New Storm Ltd ship with a 25 km/h limiter, but the limiter does not change the classification – it is the design speed and motor output that count. All models have front and rear suspension, pneumatic tyres, indicators and an app. No Dualtron has a saddle or a removable battery. Cruise control and ambient light are found on the Victor Limited, New Achilleus, Alien, X Limited, New Storm Ltd and Thunder 3, and the Popular has ambient light but no cruise control.
