Choosing the right Onemile electric bike – a guide to the models

The range is small but clearly divided, so the choice mostly comes down to how and where you will ride.

The models – folding commuter or fat bike

Onemile E2 is a folding electric bike with an aluminium frame, a 250 W motor with 55 Nm of torque, a 36 V 10 Ah battery and up to 100 km of range. It weighs 21 kg, has rear suspension, an adjustable handlebar and a USB port for your phone, and comes in four colours. Onemile E1P builds on the same foundation but weighs 20.8 kg, has 47 Nm, an upright riding position and a rear rack included. Onemile M40 PRO is a fat bike in the Scrambler series with an 850 W motor (1,000 W peak), 75 Nm, a 52 V 19.2 Ah battery and 80 km of range, in five colours. Onemile P40 Pro is the Scrambler S Pro with the same battery and range, an 850 W motor, an aluminium frame and a lower handlebar height, in four colours. Both fat bikes have cruise control, indicators, an ignition key and an electric horn.

Range and battery on an Onemile electric bike

The E2 and E1P have a 360 Wh battery and are rated at 100 km, while the M40 PRO and P40 Pro have 998 Wh and are rated at 80 km. Fat bikes with wider tyres, more weight and a stronger motor simply draw more current. Expect 60–75 percent of the stated range in real riding – assistance level, hills, temperature and rider weight all matter a lot. The battery is removable on the E2, M40 PRO and P40 Pro, which is handy if you charge indoors; the E1P charges on the bike. Charging takes 4–5 hours on the E2 and E1P and 5–6 hours on the fat bikes. If you want to compare with other long-distance models, the full selection is under electric bikes with long range. Our practical tips to get more range from every charge apply to e-bikes too.

Motor, torque and weight

The commuter models have 250 W rated output, which is plenty in city traffic and on lighter climbs of up to around 15 degrees. The Scrambler models have 850 W and 75 Nm and handle gradients of up to 30 degrees with a load, with a recommended maximum weight of 125 kg versus 120 kg on the E2 and E1P. Weight is the other big difference: 20.8–21 kg for the folding bikes compared with 42 kg for the fat bikes. If the bike has to be carried up stairs or come along on the train, the E1P is the lightest Onemile electric bike, while the M40 PRO is the most powerful.

Frame, comfort and equipment

The E2 and E1P have a folding aluminium frame, 20-inch pneumatic tyres, rear suspension and Shimano 7-speed gearing with hydraulic disc brakes. The E2 has an adjustable handlebar and is recommended for riders of 162–200 cm. The M40 PRO and P40 Pro roll on 20 x 4.0-inch knobbly fat bike tyres with front and rear suspension, hydraulic disc brakes, an LCD display, an IP54 rating and a recommended rider height of 165–200 cm. The M40 PRO has a higher handlebar (1,000 mm) and is tagged as a women's bike in the shop, while the P40 Pro has a lower handlebar (860 mm) and a more forward-leaning position. You will find more rugged models under fat bike and the whole range under all electric bikes.

Rules in Europe for an Onemile electric bike

Across the EU an electric bike counts as a bicycle (pedelec or EPAC) if the motor is rated at no more than 250 W, assists only up to 25 km/h and any throttle does not drive the bike faster than 6 km/h. You may then ride on the cycle path without registration, insurance or a driving licence, while helmet rules vary by country. Onemile E2 and E1P meet this with 250 W and 25 km/h and are therefore pedelec class. The M40 PRO and P40 Pro have an 850 W motor and a 45 km/h top speed and are formally treated as speed pedelecs or mopeds even if you activate the 25 km/h limiter – the limiter does not change the motor output. Public roads then require registration, insurance, a helmet and a driving licence or moped permit; otherwise they are intended for enclosed private land. Check your national rules before you decide, and read more about road rules in the EU. The EU rules on pedal assistance, throttles and speed limits are explained in our guide to electric bike laws in Europe.
