Choosing the right KOOLUX electric bike – a guide to the models
The models share three riding modes, a 120 kg maximum load and a removable battery with key. The differences lie in wheel size, frame, battery and motor. Here we sort them out, along with range and power, European rules and servicing.
The models – from the X10 to the X8 and the X13 tricycle
The KOOLUX X10 and X9 Mini are the compact single-speed 16-inch models. The X10 is the lightest at 25.6 kg, with a folding frame, 350 W motor and 65 km of stated range; the X9 Mini has 80 km, front and rear suspension, indicators and a horn. The KOOLUX X15, X2 and X3 are classic 26-inch bikes with 7 gears: the X15 weighs 26.7 kg and is rated at 120 km, the X2 and X3 have a 500 W motor, hydraulic brakes, a rear rack and mudguards.
The biggest group is on 20 inches. The KOOLUX X7 and X7 Pro share a 48V 25Ah battery, 120 km and 43 kg, but the X7 Pro has a 750 W rear hub motor with 75 Nm, fat tyres, hydraulic brakes, NFC, a front basket and a rear rack. The KOOLUX X8 is the range king with 48V 65Ah at 3120 Wh and a stated 220 km. The KOOLUX X9 Pro has dual batteries at 1498 Wh, 180 km and dual charging ports. The RK10 and X16 are folding commuter models, the X12 Pro a folding fat bike with full suspension, and the KOOLUX X13 a folding tricycle with a 500 W motor, 80 km, indicators and cruise control.
Range and battery on a KOOLUX electric bike
Stated range runs from 65 km for the X10, through 80–85 km for the X9 Mini, X13, X2 and X3, 120 km for the X7, X7 Pro, X15, RK10 and X12 Pro and 150 km for the X16, to 180 km for the X9 Pro and 220 km for the X8. The figures apply under ideal conditions in the lowest assistance mode; count on 60–75 percent of the stated figure, less in cold weather, hills and the highest assistance mode, and considerably less in pure electric mode. Compare watt-hours rather than kilometres: 468 Wh in the X10 is enough for short city trips, 624–749 Wh in the X9 Mini, RK10, X15 and X16 covers several days of commuting, and 1200–3120 Wh in the X7, X7 Pro, X9 Pro and X8 are built for long days with a load. Motor, torque and weight
Rated output is 250 W in the X7, X15, X16 and X9 Mini, 350 W in the X10, 500 W in the X2, X3 and X13 and 750 W in the X8, X9 Pro, RK10, X7 Pro and X12 Pro. Torque decides how hills feel: 33 Nm in the X10 is enough for a flat city, 55–58 Nm handles hilly commutes and 65–75 Nm in the 750 W models and the X7 gives power for steep climbs with a load. Weight follows battery and tyres: 25.6–31 kg for the X10, X15, X2, X3 and X16, around 35 kg for the X9 Mini, RK10 and X12 Pro, 43–54 kg for the rest, so the X10 or X15 is the right choice if the bike has to be carried up stairs.
Frame and comfort – folding, fat bike or tricycle
The folding models are the X10, X16, RK10, X12 Pro and X13. Fat tyres of 20 x 4.0 inches for gravel, sand and snow come on the X8, X9 Pro, X7 Pro and X12 Pro, and you will find more among our fat bikes. All have front suspension, the X9 Mini and X12 Pro rear suspension too. Several models have hydraulic disc brakes (X9 Pro, RK10, X7 Pro, X2, X3, X12 Pro, X13), the others mechanical. A rear rack comes on the X7 Pro, X9 Pro, X2 and X3, a front basket on the X8 and X7 Pro. No model has a step-through frame, so check the recommended rider height on the product page. Rules in Europe for a KOOLUX electric bike
Under the EU-wide pedelec (EPAC) definition an e-bike counts as a bicycle if the motor is rated at no more than 250 W and only assists up to 25 km/h, with any throttle limited to 6 km/h. Then you can use the cycle lane without registration, and the helmet rules for cyclists in your country apply. A stronger motor, throttle above 6 km/h or assistance above 25 km/h formally makes it a speed pedelec or moped, with registration, insurance, a helmet and a driving licence typically required and the exact rules varying by country – otherwise only enclosed private land. All KOOLUX models are stated with a top speed between 32 and 50 km/h and are therefore formally moped class.

Service, warranty and spare parts for a KOOLUX electric bike
Charge at room temperature, store the battery half-charged if the bike is parked for long periods and keep the tyres pumped up. IP54 handles rain but not a pressure washer. The mechanical disc brakes on the X7, X15, X16, X9 Mini, X10 and X8 may need adjusting after the first few rides.
