Electric scooter suspension is an aftermarket kit that adds suspension to models that lack it from the factory – in practice the Xiaomi M365 family, the Ninebot Max G30, F series, G2 and ZT3 and the HX models. Choosing the right electric scooter suspension – guide
The most important choice is which model you ride and where the vibrations bother you most: in the handlebar or in the deck. Below we go through the sub-types, fit, fitting, rules and warranty.
Front electric scooter suspension – fork kits and spring kits
The front kit replaces the rigid front fork with a sprung one and makes the biggest difference to hands and wrists. The simplest option is our own fork shock absorber in steel (1.8 kg) for the Xiaomi M365/1S/Pro 2/Mi 3 and for the Ninebot G30 – budget level with a new mudguard in the box. A step up is the front fork shock absorber V2 for Xiaomi, the only hydraulic kit in the range: hydraulic damping plus a spring in aluminium, with a wider mudguard and reflectors. If you want adjustable suspension, choose Monorim: the front suspension kit V5.0 for Xiaomi (150 mm of travel, 120 kg maximum load, four colours) and the front suspension kit v5 for Ninebot G30 (aluminium, 2.14 kg) are the most complete. Monorim also has front kits for the Ninebot F20/F25/F30/F40 with an adjustable spring, for the F2/F2 Plus/F2 Pro, the MX2 for the Max G2/G65 and a kit for the HX X6/X7/X8 with two extra springs for different rider weights.
Rear electric scooter suspension
Rear kits take care of the hits that go straight up into the deck and saddle. Our own rear shock absorber in steel (220 × 220 × 80 mm, 1.6 kg) is available for the Xiaomi M365/1S, Pro/Pro 2 and Essential as well as the Ninebot G30, with a brake cable, Allen keys and reflective stickers in the box. Monorim's rear kit for Xiaomi and rear kit v2 for Ninebot G30 are the premium options in aluminium and steel – note that both require you to drill holes in the chassis, tools included. For the Ninebot F series there is Monorim's rear kit in steel with non-destructive fitting, meaning no drilling.
Steering damper and three-wheel conversion
Some kits differ from the usual suspension kits. The Monorim steering damper for the Ninebot ZT3/ZT3 Pro is an adjustable damper in 6061-T6 aluminium with sealed bearings that mounts between the fork crown and the stem clamp without modifications – it damps steering wobble rather than bumps. The Monorim three-wheel conversion rebuilds your Xiaomi M365/Pro/1S/Pro 2/Mi 3 into a three-wheeler (8.5 or 10 inches) for better balance and stability.
How to choose suspension for your electric scooter – will it fit?
Always start with the Applicable models list on the product page. The Xiaomi kits generally cover the M365, M365 Pro, 1S, Essential, Pro 2 and Mi 3 – some also the Mi 3 Lite, Mi 4 Pro and iScooter i9, but not all, so check your exact model. The Ninebot G30 kits fit the G30, MAX G30, G30D and G30LP. Then consider:
- Rider weight: if you are heavy or ride with cargo, choose Monorim's V5 kit with a 120 kg maximum load or the HX kit with extra springs.
- Material and weight: steel is durable and affordable but heavier (1.6–1.8 kg), the aluminium kits lighter for what they do.
- Adjustability: Monorim's front F kits and the steering damper let you set the stiffness to suit the surface.
- Contents: front kits often come with a wider mudguard and reflectors – useful if the original is worn.
Fitting: how to install electric scooter suspension
Front kits are fitted by removing the front wheel and the original fork and bolting on the new kit – Monorim quotes 45–120 minutes for the F series kits and the tools are included. Wheely Shop's rear steel kits bolt into existing mounts and come with a new brake cable, while Monorim's rear kits for Xiaomi and G30 require drilling holes with the supplied drilling template. Tighten the bolts according to the manual, check that the brake cable runs freely and test ride at low speed. Retighten the bolts after the first few kilometres.
Rules, warranty and care in the EU
Suspension affects neither motor power nor top speed, so an electric scooter in the bicycle class (max 250 W and 20–25 km/h depending on the country) stays in that class with retrofitted suspension – see the EU overview of road rules and safety for the rules where you ride. Two things to be clear about: kits that require drilling can affect the vehicle manufacturer's warranty, and Monorim is clear that the kits are built for comfort on the road, not for jumps and extreme terrain. How a three-wheel conversion affects the vehicle's classification has not been established, so ask us before using it in traffic. Rinse off grit, dry the springs and lightly oil moving parts after winter riding. Which electric scooter suspension is best?
It depends on model and budget. For the Xiaomi M365 family the Monorim front suspension kit V5.0 is the most complete with 150 mm of travel and a 120 kg maximum load, and for the Ninebot G30 the corresponding Monorim v5 kit. If you want to keep the cost down, our own steel fork shock absorber makes a big difference at the handlebar, and if you want hydraulic damping the V2 fork kit for Xiaomi is the only option.
Will the suspension kits fit my Xiaomi or Ninebot?
Always check the Applicable models list on the product page. The Xiaomi kits normally cover the M365, M365 Pro, 1S, Essential, Pro 2 and Mi 3, some also the Mi 3 Lite, Mi 4 Pro and iScooter i9. The Ninebot G30 kits fit the G30, MAX G30, G30D and G30LP, and there are separate kits for the F20–F40, F2, Max G2/G65 and ZT3. The HX kit fits the HX X6/X7/X8 as well as Turboant, Vivobike S3 Max and Hover-1.
