Choosing the right electric scooter bag and e-bike storage – guide
Start with the question of what you need to carry. Keys, phone and charger fit in a handlebar bag, the weekly shop calls for a hook, basket or rear rack, and anyone commuting with a laptop wants a backpack that protects the tech. For the vehicle itself there are storage bags and mounts.
Handlebar bags – the everyday electric scooter bag
The Carrier series is our own handlebar bag. Carrier Black Edition holds 4 litres in shape-holding EVA (30x13x16 cm), attaches with sturdy Velcro straps to the handlebar and fits most electric scooters. Premium Black Edition has the same dimensions but is water-resistant with two compartments and a key ring. Carrier Ninebot Edition is tailored for Segway Ninebot ZT3, Max G2, G30, ES4, F35 and F40 as well as Xiaomi 1S, M365, Pro and 4, holds 4.1 litres and weighs 285 g; Segway Edition is a slimmer 3-litre variant. For the e-bike there is the NEWBOLER waterproof front bag (PVC and nylon, front fork, 5 or 7 litres) and the 1-litre Smart e-bike handlebar bag.
Baskets, hooks and rear racks for heavier loads
When the bags are heavy, a hook, basket or rear rack is the way to go. Hooks are the largest sub-type, with both universal and model-specific versions.
- Xiaomi hook – nylon, load capacity up to 70 kg; matching versions exist for Ninebot G30, the ES series, Max G3, G2, F3, ZT3 Pro, GT1 and GT2, KuKirin G2 Pro and G2 Max as well as HX X7.
- Smart basket – 27.5x23x16 cm steel basket for electric scooters, maximum load 30 kg.
- Smart rear rack Xiaomi – aluminium, 27x17x15 cm, maximum load 50 kg; the Smart rear rack for Ninebot G30 takes 60 kg.
- Rear basket for e-bikes – water-resistant metal basket with quick release that goes on or off in seconds, up to 30 kg.
- Front rack for e-bikes – 10 kg up front; the Smart bike rack with basket takes 50 kg at the rear.
Pannier bags for the rack and backpacks for the commuter
If the e-bike already has a rear rack, a pannier bag that hangs on it is the easiest option. The Smart e-bike pannier bag is water-resistant and roomy, the double-sided pannier bag for bicycles fits standard racks and gives you load on both sides; for those who pack light there is a saddle bag and a triangle frame bag.
The backpacks come in several versions. The Smart backpack (15 litres, polyester and ABS) is water-resistant and has LED lights with four modes – riding, stop, left and right indicators. The Smart Backpack Pro is a 20–35-litre laptop backpack weighing 0.9 kg; the same size is available as Business Edition, Clean Design, Premium Edition and Vaccum Edition. Splash Edition is under 20 litres.
Electric scooter bag for the vehicle itself – plus e-bike and battery storage
Storage bags protect the vehicle from dust, moisture and scratches. The Smart storage bag (110x50x18 cm) in water-resistant Oxford fabric fits most folding electric scooters, the Smart storage bag XL (124x25x45 cm) takes larger models and there is a version with wheels. In addition there is a storage bag for folding bikes, a bag for the Inmotion V8, V8S and V8F and a hard-shell e-bike battery storage bag in 1680PU and EVA (46x16x10 cm) – check your battery's dimensions before buying.
At home, a mount frees up floor space: the Smart wall mount in steel (255x75 mm) carries an electric scooter of up to 50 kg, the Smart bike wall mount in carbon steel and TPE takes 30 kg, and the Smart bike ceiling mount (95 cm system width) lifts the bike up towards the ceiling in the garage or storage room.
How to choose – compatibility, dimensions and materials
Velcro-mounted handlebar bags and universal hooks fit almost every vehicle, while bolt-on hooks and racks are built for a specific model – check the product's compatibility list. For e-bikes, the width and rails of the rear rack decide which bags will clip on, and for storage bags the vehicle's folded dimensions must fit inside the bag's inner measurements. Choose volume by need: 3–4 litres for phone, wallet and charger, 15 litres for a day trip and 20–35 litres for a laptop and a change of clothes. EVA holds its shape, Oxford fabric is soft and packs small, steel and aluminium carry heavy loads. Several products are described as water-resistant but none has an IP rating, so keep zips turned away from the rain. Rules, safety and care for an electric scooter bag in Europe
There are no specific legal requirements for storage accessories, but a few things apply. Stay under the maximum load the manufacturer states for the hook, basket or rack and under the vehicle's own load limit. Which electric scooter bag is best?
For most riders a handlebar bag from the Carrier series is the best choice: 4 litres, a Velcro mount that fits almost every handlebar and room for phone, wallet and charger. If you ride a Ninebot or Xiaomi, the Carrier Ninebot Edition gives the best fit, and if you want water resistance with two compartments the Premium Black Edition is the one. If you need more volume, a 15–35-litre backpack is better than a bigger handlebar bag.
How do you fit an electric scooter bag?
The handlebar bags attach with Velcro straps around the handlebar and stem in under a minute, no tools needed. Model-specific hooks and racks bolt into existing holes in the stem or by the rear wheel with the supplied screws. Check that no mount presses against the brake or throttle lever and that the light is unobstructed before you ride.
Can you ride an electric scooter with a bag, basket and cargo in the EU?
Yes, no country bans storage accessories as such. What applies is that the load must not obscure lights or reflectors, that you stay under the accessory's stated maximum load and the vehicle's own load limit, and that you can still steer safely. Electric scooters are single-rider vehicles across the EU, so baskets and saddles are for luggage, not passengers.
Will a pannier bag fit my e-bike or regular bicycle?
The pannier bags and the double-sided bicycle bag clip onto standard rear racks and work on both e-bikes and regular bicycles. The front bag mounts on the front fork and the e-bike handlebar bag attaches to the handlebar with Velcro. Measure the width of your rack and check that the bag does not reach into the spokes or hide the rear light.
Is there an electric scooter bag for the vehicle itself and the battery?
