Choosing the right KOOLUX electric scooter – a guide to the U1 and U1 Pro

KOOLUX builds electric scooters with a saddle and suspension for riders who commute longer distances and want to sit comfortably. The models share the same frame, tyres, battery voltage and smart features – the difference lies in motor power, battery capacity and weight. Below we look at what sets them apart, how range works in practice and which rules apply.

The models: what separates the U1 from the U1 Pro?

The foundation is identical: 10-inch pneumatic off-road tyres, front and rear shock absorbers, dual disc brakes, front and rear lights, indicators, a saddle and an LCD display on the handlebar. The U1 has a single 500 W motor and a 48 V 15.6 Ah battery, handles 20° climbs and weighs 33.3 kg. The U1 Pro has two motors delivering 1,000 W in total, a 48 V 20.8 Ah battery, 25° climbing ability and weighs 38.2 kg. Both are approved for riders up to 120 kg and suit heights between 150 and 185 cm.

KOOLUX U1: a suspended electric scooter with saddle for commuting

The U1 is the model for you if you want comfort on rough cycle paths without adding too much weight. The single 500 W motor delivers smooth power on everyday hills, the battery is rated for up to 70 km of range and charges fully in 7–8 hours. It folds down to 125 × 22.5 × 46 cm and fits in the boot of a car. A great choice if you commute 10–25 km a day and want to sit down on the way.

KOOLUX electric scooter U1 Pro: dual motors for hills and terrain

The U1 Pro shares the same chassis but adds a second motor and a larger battery. Dual-motor drive gives better grip on gravel, sand and snow and tackles steeper climbs, while the 20.8 Ah battery leaves you a margin when riding in the sporty S mode. You switch between ECO, D and S in the app or on the display, and cruise control takes the strain off the thumb throttle on longer rides. The pick for you if you ride in hilly terrain or want power in reserve.

Range and battery: how far a KOOLUX electric scooter goes

The manufacturer rates both models at up to 70 km, measured in ECO mode with a light rider on flat ground. In practice, range drops with rider weight, speed, hills, cold weather and a demanding riding mode – expect 40–55 km in mixed riding. The U1 Pro has a bigger battery but also two motors, so the difference in real-world range is smaller than the capacity suggests. The battery is fixed in the chassis and charges with the supplied charger; the battery management system protects against overcharging and short circuits. You may also want to compare other long-range electric scooters. Getting more kilometres out of every charge is covered in our guide on how to increase e-scooter and e-bike range.

Rules and speed limit: can a KOOLUX electric scooter be ridden on public roads?

The U1 and U1 Pro have a top speed of 25 km/h, but their rated power (500 W and 1,000 W respectively) exceeds the 250 W limit that most EU countries apply for an e-scooter to be ridden as a bicycle. The rules on registration, insurance, helmets and minimum age vary from country to country, so check your national requirements before riding in traffic – on private, enclosed land no such requirements apply. The EU's overview of road rules and safety across the EU is a good starting point, and always wear a helmet. The rules on helmets, age and cycle lanes are summarised country by country in our guide to electric scooter laws in Europe.

Service, warranty and spare parts

Wheelyshop delivers KOOLUX with a 2-year warranty and free delivery to your door. Wear parts such as tyres, inner tubes, brake pads and chargers are listed in our spare parts portal, and parts not listed can be ordered on request. Consider adding a lock on top of the NFC locking whenever the scooter is parked outdoors.

Frequently asked questions

Which KOOLUX electric scooter is best for commuting?

The U1 is enough for most commuters: a 500 W motor, saddle, suspension and up to 70 km of rated range at a lower weight. If you live somewhere hilly, weigh more or ride a lot of gravel, the U1 Pro with dual motors and a larger battery is the safer bet.

Is a KOOLUX electric scooter legal to ride on public roads?

Top speed is limited to 25 km/h, but the rated power of 500 W (U1) and 1,000 W (U1 Pro) exceeds the 250 W limit for bicycle-class e-scooters in most EU countries. Requirements for registration, insurance, helmets and minimum age differ between countries, so check your national rules before riding on public roads. On private land no such requirements apply.

How far do the KOOLUX U1 and U1 Pro go on a charge?

Both are rated for up to 70 km per charge in ECO mode. In mixed riding at normal speed with an adult rider, 40–55 km is a realistic range. A full charge takes 7–8 hours with the supplied charger.

What's included when I buy a KOOLUX electric scooter from Wheelyshop?

The box contains the electric scooter, charger, user manual and tool kit. You get free delivery, a 2-year warranty and access to spare parts and support from Wheelyshop.

Is the KOOLUX U1 rainproof, and can it be folded?

Yes, both models are IPX4-rated and handle splashes and light rain, but should not be hosed down or ridden through deep water. The stem folds down to 125 × 22.5 × 46 cm so the scooter fits in the car or the hallway.
