FAQ

Frequently asked questions about electric bikes

How far can you cycle on one charge with an electric bicycle?

The range of an e-bike varies depending on the model, the battery’s capacity, the terrain and how much you use the electric assistance. In general, you can expect between 40 and 170 km on a single charge. Our most popular e-bikes, such as the Duotts C29 Pro and DYU C6, have batteries that last 70–100 km.

Do you have to pedal an electric bike or can it drive itself?

For an electric bike to be classified as a bicycle under Swedish law, you must pedal for the motor to provide assistance – the motor must not drive the bike by itself. If an electric bike can be driven without you pedaling, it is instead classified as a class 2 moped or class 1 moped, which means completely different rules regarding driving licenses, insurance and equipment. If you want to know more about the difference between an electric bike and a moped, please read our guide and laws and regulations for electric bicycles in Sweden.

How fast can an electric bike go?

An electric bicycle may, according to Swedish law have electric assistance up to 25 km/h. You can cycle faster than that, but then only your own pedaling power counts – the motor does not help above that speed. This applies to all electric bicycles that are approved for use on Swedish roads.

Can you use an electric bike like a regular bike?

Yes, you can use an electric bike just like a regular bike. If you turn off the electric assistance or if the battery runs out, the electric bike will function like a traditional bike, although it may be slightly heavier due to the motor and battery.

How long does the battery last on an electric bike?

Battery life varies depending on usage and maintenance. According to Trek A quality battery lasts for approximately 800 charge cycles, which is between 3–6 years. To extend the battery's life, it should be stored at room temperature and charged regularly.
