How to change tires on your electric scooter: A step-by-step guide

Getting a flat tire on your e-scooter is a common but annoying situation. Don't worry, though – with the right tools and a clear plan, you can be back on the road in no time. Here's a complete guide to changing the tires and tubes on your e-scooter so you can keep enjoying the ride.

Why change tires?

A puncture usually means you need to replace the damaged tube. It's a fairly simple repair you can do at home if you have the right tools and instructions. Here's a step-by-step guide to changing the tube and tire on your e-scooter.

Step 1: Remove the damaged tube

  1. Preparation: First, remove the screws that secure the brake to the wheel to free it up. This makes it easier to remove the wheel from the scooter.

  2. Remove parts: Remove any decals and plastic covers holding the wheel in place.

  3. Remove the wheel: Once all the screws are loose, carefully remove the wheel from the scooter.

  4. The brake disc: Unscrew the brake disc, which is usually held on by four or five screws, and set it aside.

  5. Removing the tube: Unscrew the valve cap and the nut that holds the tube in place. Press the valve to deflate the tube. Create a gap between the tire and the rim using a tire lever, and gently pry the tire up to remove it completely from the rim. Then take the rim and tube out of the tire.

  6. Replace the tube: Replace the damaged tube with a new one. You'll find all our tires and inner tubes in our range here.

Step 2: Reinstall the wheel

  1. Install the new tube: Start by inserting the valve into the rim and screwing the nut onto the valve. Push the tube into the tire and make sure the nut is properly tightened.

  2. Put the tire back on: Mount the tire on the rim. Feel free to use a tire lever and ask a friend for help if needed. Inflate the tire to the recommended pressure – check the tire's specifications for the correct bar value.

  3. Reattach the brake disc: Put the brake disc and wheel back on the scooter. Tighten all the screws that hold the wheel firmly in place.

  4. Put the covers back on: Reattach the plastic cover and any decals you removed.

  5. Brake adjustment: Screw the brake back on and adjust it so the brake disc sits as close to the right side as possible for the best performance.
